Developer Zone: Trading Storage - What's New

Trading storage is now as simple as ever: The only requirement you have to fulfill is that you are online for at least four hours a day on average. Just go to Tools > Options > Trade Storage (Win/Linux) or Preferences > Trade Storage (Mac), set the check box for trading, and specify how many GBs you want to trade.

What's New

You can now trade storage, even if your connection is not optimal. We introduced three connection types 'A', 'B', and 'C'. 'A' means that your connection is optimal and you will earn storage very quickly. 'C' means that your connection is just ok for trading storage. You can still do it, but you will earn storage very slowly. In this case you should consider
improving your connection.

Here's my special suggestion for the new version:

• Activate 'trade storage' in the preferences
• Enable the option 'Start Wuala when I start my computer' (in your preferences under 'General') so that Wuala is running whenever your computer is switched on

By trading storage, you will automatically become a Pro user and can take advantage of our two new features: backup and file versioning.

Daily Life: Help us get selected to present at SXSW 2010!

We've nominated Dominik to present at one of the leading conferences in the US, South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive Festival. With the PanelPicker voting interface, the public (folks like you and I) have 30% of voting power of what panels get selected for the event. The remaining selection power is determined by the advisory board (40%) and the staff (30%).

New Logo

We're pleased to announce our new logo. While Wuala and LaCie have their own respective roadmaps, we also have strong plans to release joint products, combining hardware and software. The new logo aims at expressing unity - and it fits perfectly on LaCie boxes! We loved the old logo, but we also love the new one, and we're excited to see it soon in stores and in many other places. :)

Anniversary Release: Backup, File Versioning and Co.

Nearly one year after launching our public beta, we're proud to present our brand new features:

Backup (pro feature)
You can now choose a source folder on your computer and sync it to Wuala. Everything that you store or change in that folder will be automatically be uploaded to Wuala. Just go to File > New Backup Folder and choose a folder on your hard drive. To define the settings, rightclick (control-click on the Mac) on the backup folder and choose "Backup Settings".

File Versioning (pro feature)
You can now open previous versions of a file. Click on the file and go to File > Open previous version. As soon as you have chosen a previous version, you can move the slider at the bottom to see how your files looked like on a specific date.

Restore Deleted Files
Don't ever worry about accidentally deleting a file on Wuala. From now on, every file you delete, will be automatically moved to the Trash. If you need it again, you can simply go to the Trash, rightclick (control-click on the Mac) on the file and select "Restore".

Invite Friends and Earn Space
Pretty simple: Invite your friends and earn extra storage. For every friend you invite, you get 250 MB additional online storage. If you're a Pro user, you even get 500 MB. Furthermore, you're also helping your friend, because he or she starts off with 2 GB, instead of 1 GB.

Trade Storage
We've now made it a lot easier to trade storage: Your computer has to be online for at least 4 hours a day.

Hi Wuala fans!

Wuala is expanding, so shortly after Thomas I started here too. My name is Alex, I also studied at ETH Zürich, and I have about 11 years of Java development experience. Before Wuala I developed e-banking solutions and a SOA platform for a big airline. Having worked for a big american company before, I'm excited to work now for a small and effective swiss firm.
