Last Chance to Get Your eKnife!

We're proud to see that our premium bundle called eKnife, which we've launched together with Doodle and Memonic, just made it's way to Zurich's daily newspaper Tages Anzeiger. The article nicely summarizes that web services do not necessarily need to be from Google, Apple or Microsoft and introduces those clever web services 'Made in Switzerland'. Read the article here (in German).
Remember: This is a limited time offer and only running until the end of this year, so get yours now at www.eknife.ch!

2010: Year in Review

The year has flown by. Looking back, we have come far and have launched many new products and features.

PRODUCTS
2010 started off with Wuala being bundled with LaCie products. LaCie costumers buying a LaCie Key or an external hard drive are automatically entitled to get additional online storage on Wuala.

As a first mover, we successfully started selling Wuala Cards in selected stores in Switzerland. It is now possible to buy a 10 GB Wuala Card at Interdiscount, Data Quest and Heiniger.

FEATURES
Our primary focus was enhancing Wuala as a whole, but at the same time adding new features. Our major feature, sync, which has been requested by many users, was successfully launched for our second anniversary in August. With sync you can keep your files up to date on every computer you've linked to your Wuala account. Further, you can also sync files in groups. Together with automatic backup, our pro features perfectly cover your online storage needs, by keeping your data safe and up to date. In case you haven't tried them out yet, be sure to click on the trial button in the client, giving you the ability to test the pro features for 30 days.

TEAM
This year many new faces joined: Marcel, Jonas, Andrei, Christian, Luki, Bastian and Peter. We are now a team of 18, hoping to find like-minded people for next year.

NUMBERS
Wuala has clearly become the hub for files: We've stored over 200 million files in June and have just passed the mark of 300 million files, which is simply amazing.
Further, Wuala is also available in several languages - Dutch, Italian, Portuguese-Portugal and Spanish - a big thank you to our community!

COMPLIMENTS AND AWARDS
Many press articles have highlighted the fact that all files on Wuala first get encrypted directly on your computer before being uploaded. For this we have received great reviews, such as Ktipp or PC WELT.
In terms of awards: We received the Anthrazit Award for being one of the best websites in Switzerland.

CONFERENCES AND EVENTS
Apart from being at major web conferences such as the Lift Conference and LeWeb, we joined LaCie at Photokina in Cologne or World Didac in Basel. This gave us the opportunity to talk to users personally, which is really important in receiving direct feedback.
For next year, we're proud to be part of eZurich. Our very own Luzius will be taking part in a workshop gathering all topshots of the Swiss ICT-scene. The aim of the workshop is to determine how Zurich can become the leading location for IT in Europe.

PREMIUM BUNDLE
Together with Doodle and Memonic we successfully launched eKnife.ch, a premium bundle, giving you Doodles and Memonics premium features and a 10 GB Wuala Pro account. The idea for our Swiss Online Army Knife arouse spontaneously on Twitter - that's what social media is for! In case you didn't get your eKnife yet, do it soon - it's only running until Dec 31, 2010.

We wish you Happy Holidays and look forward to seeing you next year. Thank you for your support and feedback throughout the year. For 2011 our roadmap is filled with new products and apps - expect to be surprised!

Release: Oberstrass

For the holiday season we've released a minor release:
  • Continuous backup on Windows. Newly created backup folders can be backed up on every change (like sync).
  • New import for contacts. Since our contacts import library has not been maintained anymore, we decided to replace it with our own implementation. We currently support GMail & Yahoo.
  • Improved accessibility. Support for large fonts and high contrast color schemes.
  • Early access release of a new technology for the Wuala Drive (to replace Dokan). Start Wuala with "-useCBFS" parameter to try it out.
Hope you enjoy our latest release and be ready for next year - you'll be stunned!

PC WELT Review

I'd like to share another very nice review in the November edition of PC WELT, a leading German PC magazine. They say:*

If you want to know more about how we protect your privacy, be sure to read our publication called Cryptree or the Googe Tech Talk.

* PC WELT recommends Wuala because of its exemplary and comprehensible privacy protection.
